‘Man, so if you’re poor, you’re dead.’
That’s how one gobsmacked British woman responded when she was told that an inhaler in the United States could cost as much as $350.
“I’m genuinely speechless,” she added. “If you don’t have money, you’re fudged.”
Another was shocked to hear the average cost to deliver a baby comes in at around $10,000 and can go up to $30,000. “That’s mad!” she said.
Those are just two of the many Brits left scratching their heads in a viral video from news outlet Joe, which asked people on the streets of London to guess the cost of certain services. U.K. citizens are covered by the publicly funded National Health Service, hence their confusion and astonishment.

The video circulated amid fears that the NHS could get sold off or compromised by a potential trade deal with President Trump.
“[The NHS is] the gift that keeps on giving,” one woman said. “Literally, literally, people are so dumb for taking advantage of it and I don’t want it to change.”
